Duan Jian 

The Duan Jian (短剑) is a compact, lightweight version of the traditional Jian, designed for ease of carry and quick access in tight environments. It is shorter and lighter than the standard Jian, making it easy to conceal and carry on a belt or in a sheath. Its portability allows for fast, precise strikes, making it an ideal secondary weapon for warriors or martial artists. Historically, the Duan Jian was favored for situations where mobility and stealth were essential. A wooden training Duan Jian is very useful for training indoors and in tight spaces.

Custom Options

1) Weight 

​​Choose a weight or a weight range for you Jian. If you choose a precise weight, the final weight of your Jian can vary up to 30g above or under the choosen weight.

​(example: 650g, or 620 to 680g)

  • Light weight : 400 to 574 grams

  • Light-Middle weight : 575 to 699 grams

  • Middle weight : 700 to 799 grams

  • Full weight : Not available for the Duan Jian​​​​​​

2)Wood

  • Hickory is the most popular and versatile wood choice.

  • Hickory and Ash have irregular and unpredictable light to semi-light color patterns.​​

3) Length

  • Standard length : 25in blade, 5.5in grip

  • Custom length : Choose the Blade and Grip length​. Maximum blade length for a Duan Jian : 26in

Note : The blade length is measured from the grip side of the guard and the grip length does not include the pommel.​

4) Blade

  • Full-Contact Sparring Blade : Rounded edges and tip for heavy drilling and sparring.

  • Technical-Contact Drilling Blade : Semi-rounded edges and tip, can withstand intensive drilling and applications but is unsafe for full heavy sparring.

  • Guard 1 and 2 : Included

  • Guard 3 and 4 : + 10 CAD

6) Pommel
